About Fish Farmacy and Jason D. Licamele, Ph.D.
The mission of Fish Farmacy is to develop sustainable integrated farming methods to increase efficiency and profitability while reducing demand on natural resources and thus reducing environmental impacts associated with food production.Fish Farmacy combines the necessary scientific and technical principles with years of commercial experience to bring their clients knowledgeable and practical solutions for developing and maintaining a successful aquaculture, hydroponics and integrated farming operation.
Jason D. Licamele, Ph.D.
Jason is an environmental scientist and biological systems engineer with more than 10 years of experience in scientific and commercial applications of aquaculture and aquatic systems technology. He has worked domestically and internationally in the commercial aquaculture industry as a consultant and manager in aquaculture, agriculture, greenhouse engineering and integrated farming. Jason's extensive experience growing algae, fish, and vegetables gives him a thorough understanding of the design of biological systems, water chemistry, nutrient analysis, plant physiology, and the applications of computer monitoring and control systems.
Jason received his Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science as well as graduate certificates in Water Policy and Management and in Aquaculture from the University of Arizona. His dissertation work comprised a detailed analysis of a closed environment aquaponics system and an evaluation of the yield and quality of vegetables grown off of processed fish effluent and nutrient supplementations in a recirculating system.
Jason began his post graduate work at Florida Institute of Technology where he received his Master's degree in Marine Biology. He designed and managed a marine ornamental fish lab at the university where he applied his skills in aquaculture to analyze the feeding behavior and development of marine fish. He received his Bachelor's degree in marine biology and aquaculture with a minor in Ecology from Florida Institute of Technology.
Fish Farmacy was founded in 2002 as a marine aquarium design company and a marine ornamental aquaculture company. Upon accumulation of many years of experience and advanced degrees in science and engineering Fish Farmacy has evolved into a consulting firm focusing on sustainable integrated farming, aquaculture, and greenhouse engineering.
